8 Months Old

What a transformation-full month for our girl! She’s on the move, she’s eating 3 meals a day, she’s learning so much!

This month, Remington weighs just over 17 lbs (she was 17 on the dot a week ago at a doctor’s appointment) and is 28 inches long (home measurement). She’s still wearing size 2 diapers (but will move up when we finish what’s open), 6 month and 6-9 month clothing. Shoes are still a struggle. Tiny feet. Most of our infant 1s still don’t fit. We have a few pairs of shoes that finally work though, thankfully.

She’s eating 5 ounces about 5-6 times a day, along with three meals. She’s handling everything from purees to dissolving solids (Mum Mums, yogurt puffs) to soft foods (berries, cooked veggies).  She eats LIKE A CHAMP. She is letting us feed her most days (with the purees) but she will grab the spoon and feed herself some too. She loves foods she can grab and feed herself with her hands. But truth, it’s so much less messy when we feed her. She has been getting fork mashed foods and pieces of fresh fruit and cooked veggies, so she does well grabbing foods and feeding herself.

This month, she’s tried: oranges, strawberries, zucchini, lentils, chicken, raspberries, kale, broccoli, watermelon, cheese, turkey, grapes, egg, asparagus, black beans, papaya, black berries, spinach, pumpkin, peanuts, passion fruit, beef, guava, beets and cantaloupe. We have a few more puréed flavors to try, but we are also working on adding in new textures and more real food as we go. She’s a great eater.

Her faves are still green veggies like peas and green beans and avocados. She also loves berries and gets some every night while they are in season. We’ve been getting berries from Wild Things Farm, so all of these berries are locally grown at a place she will love when she gets bigger.

She moved up to the crawler room at daycare. They are such bigger kids in there (some are walking/talking!) but they are way more her speed than the babies in the other room. She plays great, naps ok (some days great, some days she won’t stop playing to nap) and is super happy at school. She was mad in the bigger room when the kids ate and she didn’t, so she started eating breakfast, lunch and snacks at daycare. I love packing her lunches.

She spent her first night away from mama while I was gone to Hanson Day- and she did so well! She was a little clingy for like an hour or two when I got home, but settled down just fine. I don’t think she was stressed at all over the weekend (which is nice to know if I have to be away or if we want to take a little getaway trip. Marriage first, ya know?)

She is still sleeping 11 hours a night (barring a sickness or something like that). YAY for successful sleep coaching.

The comments we hear from strangers (or like people at church) are that she is so happy, so easy, and such a good baby. I totally agree!

She’s on the move! She was elbow crawling, but has moved up to her hands. She can crawl on all fours but often drops to her tummy and hands because she’s faster. Red knees are our new look. She’s also starting to get frustrated with us when we take things from her (oy!).

She’s babbling a TON. In the car, at bedtime, in the mornings- so much “talking.” I think she’s trying to say Mama and “baba” (bottle), but I don’t think we’ve had a clear communication yet.

She is loving all of her toys. She’s the best at playing- either with us or by herself. I love that I can leave her surrounded by toys and she can play independently for a while. She LOVES her Beat Belle still, but she also lovess when I stack the blocks and let her knock them down. She is very interested in balls, her rattles and her drum. She will beat the drum and look to us to say “Yay!” I love it.  She also LOVES when we play a mimic game, where we do what she does.  She will go flat on the ground, sit up, get on all fours and we do the same…and she just laughs! Love it!

She enjoys bath time and splashing around, and she’s getting better when she splashes herself in the face. She also loves playing in the running water.

She still loves Hamilton Mix Tape “My Shot” but she’s also LOVING Hanson’s “I Was Born.” She responds very happily to both of those songs.

Still two teeth.  The top two feel SO CLOSE to coming in. We started brushing her teeth nightly and she LOVES it. She giggles through the whole process. It’s adorable.

Her nicknames include: Roo, Bug, Remi Roo, RG, and Remi Grace.  We are doing more of calling her by name since she responds to it.

Remington, you are the best thing in our lives. We love spending time together, teaching you things and seeing the world through your eyes. This summer will be the best one of our lives yet- getting to experience it with you! We think you’re just the happiest, best, most fun baby ever. We love you so much!
