Best Shoes for Zumba: Zumba 101

The #1 question I get asked about Zumba is : What are the best shoes for Zumba?

Looking for the best Zumba shoes?

In Zumba, you move every which way.  You will move forward, back, side to side, and even do some lateral twisting.  Because of all this different movement, you really need a shoe with very little tread, so you can glide on the floor.  If your shoes have high tread, you can injure your knees doing Zumba.

So what are the best shoes for Zumba?  Well, it really depends on your foot and your needs, but you need a shoe with very little tread. See, there are lots of lateral (sideways) movements in Zumba…and heavy tread on the bottom of your shoe can hurt your knees.

Best Shoes for Zumba: My Recommendations

Zumba makes their own shoes for Zumba.  They actually make several different types of shoes…so you would be best to read the descriptions and try the one that sounds best for you.  I like the Impact Max because they offer compression and security during high impact moves.  (Be sure you use the code BLEE1 at checkout to get 10% off your Zumba shoes!)

However, many brands make dance fitness shoes.

Ryka makes a couple different shoes: the Rhythmic+ and the Downbeat (if you like more of a high top look). Both of these shoes will be supportive and offer low tread with a turn point.

Bloch actually makes dance shoes for all types of dance…and their Traverse dance sneakers would be a good fit for Zumba.

Nike makes the Studio Trainer, which you might like for Zumba shoes. They also come in a variety of colors.

Really, the best way to figure out the best shoes for Zumba FOR YOU is to try them out.  Either order them online and dance around your living room, or go to the athletic shoe store and try them on.  Some feet like certain shoes.  It really is very personal which shoes are best for Zumba for your feet.  Be sure to find shoes with low tread so you save your knees!

Shoes made for cheer or dance are GREAT for this!  Ask your local athletic shoe store for their cheer or dance shoes…or search online for them.
Do you have questions about which shoes are the best for Zumba?  Let me know!  I have been taking Zumba for 8 years and teaching it since 2011, so I have tried mannnny different types of shoes over the years!

  1. Hi there, new here : ) Wanted to say I started to Zumba about 2 months ago, I am obssessed !!! And I love the skechers Danza sneakers-I’ve had foot surgery (still have a screw in my big toe from it) and tore my ACL in high school (cheerleading) and these shoes are fantastic for me and my ortho issues! The look very very similar to the z kicks my instructor wears, but I got my skechers on sale at a skechers outlet for 40$ bonus ; )
