Let’s Be Friends!

Let’s Be Friends!

I’m linking up today with Kelly’s Korner to meet some new friends. 🙂

If you’re new here, here’s what you need to know:

I’m Brittney. I live in Arkansas and have for most of my life.

I love it here. It’s a beautiful state with lots of hidden gems to explore.

I’m married to my husband Tyler, who is a police officer.

We’ve been married for 6 years on Sunday (yay for anniversaries!) and we have two sweet dogs- Mikey and Pippin. (Mikey is the white one, Pippin is the crazy one)

We live on 20 acres outside of town, and I enjoy the “country life” setting. I like walking to the pond to feed our catfish and sitting on the porch watching the sunset. There are cows in my backyard, so I don’t take the “country girl” thing lightly.

I love music. I love Broadway musicals- my mom and I have seen over 60 between Broadway in NYC and touring shows.

I love concerts- Hanson is my favorite band (yes, THAT MmmBop Hanson!).

I love singing (I used to do it more but I now mostly just sing specials at church).  I love dancing and teach Zumba Fitness classes.

I work in digital marketing and LOVE my job and my coworkers. It’s a blessing.

I try to be healthy-ish, but I’ve posted quite a bit about weight loss struggles here. I try to be real.

I love adventures and travel. I love a good road trip or trying new places. I don’t love long weekends at home- I itch to leave and go and do.

I am a Christian, although sometimes I feel like that term is misunderstood. What it means for me: I love Jesus, and I love people, because God created them. I try to live my life according to the teachings in the Bible and help other people know the amazing God I serve.

I love pedicures, shopping, podcasts, bubble baths, leopard print, mint chocolate ice cream, and USA TV shows.

I’d love to be your friend here! I love the community I’ve found online and hope you’ll follow along with me! 🙂

I Really Have No Idea What I’m Doing

I Really Have No Idea What I’m Doing

That’s a phrase I think to myself a lot.  A LOT.

I think that when I’m touring full-time care facilities for dad and they are asking questions.  I have no idea what I’m doing.  I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to navigate this.

I think that when I’m working with a freelance client.  I mean, I know how to write, but I have no idea how to be a business person. Fake it till you make it, I suppose.

I think that some days when I’m teaching a new Zumba song.  I don’t remember what I planned, and I’m making it up.

I feel that way when I’m on a women’s outdoor ministry outing and everyone is suiting up for the day’s activity.  An activity I’ve never done before.  It’s go time to figure it out.

Often when I’m in new territory, I panic a bit because I don’t know what to expect or what to do. But somehow, I make it work.  I figure it out. And I’m better for it.

I know some people avoid new and unfamiliar situations because of that feeling of “I don’t know what I’m doing here.”  But I’m always thankful that I went for it.  Figuring it out (while trying to play it cool) always has a payout. I’m a better person for stretching myself.

When have you felt like you had no idea what you were doing?  Tell me about the difficult stretching you’ve been through.  I know I can’t be the only one who is freaking out inside when I’m dealing with new scary things.

How I Minimize Stress

How I Minimize Stress

My life has its ups and downs.  For the most part, it feels like I bring my own stress on myself.  My job stress is pretty manageable most days. My stresses are from the things I add to my life. Or the things I put pressure on myself. However, there are stresses there.

And I have to deal with that stress somehow.

I have to take time to decompress, relax, and cope or else I feel like I’m gonna explode.

I was introduced to Oscar Health Insurance, whose main focus is fixing health care to make it a simple, stress free process with their use of techonology. They inspired me to post about minimizing stress for Stress Awareness Month, but I’m not being compensated. I just feel strongly that us women are stressed and have to deal with it, so I wanted to add my voice to this conversation to help us all cope with stress. You can check out more information on their site about their health insurance service.

Here’s how I deal.

I love a good bubble bath. When I feel overwhelmed, I take time to soak in the tub.  I recently bought a waterproof speaker so I can sync up my phone and listen to podcasts while I’m in the bath.  It’s great.

I also love to take the dogs for a walk.  I also love to listen to podcasts while we walk. I put my phone in a little fanny pack belt, use my headphones, and we walk, enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, get our blood pumping.

Another thing that helps me lower my stress is to tidy up the house.  If my house is a mess, it makes me feel like my life is a mess. So I take a bit of time (I’ll often set a 30 minute timer and give myself 30 minutes to tidy up) and just devote that to putting things away. It’s amazing what 30 minutes of sanity cleaning can do for me.

And lastly, I enjoy cooking, so I’ll spend some time just chopping veggies and cooking dinner after a stressful day.  The rhythm of cooking is very soothing to me.  I enjoy that. And then you get to sit down to a yummy meal afterwards.

What do you do to relieve stress?

I can do a Q and A post for those burning questions you have….leave your answers in the comments!

I might even do a vlog if it’s easier to answer your questions in a video. Woop!
