Weekend Recap: Running, Leaves, and Line Dancing

Weekend Recap: Running, Leaves, and Line Dancing

My heart is just overflowing from this wonderful weekend.  I just felt really blessed after this weekend.
My cousins were in town staying with Mom, so Friday I met them for lunch at Chick-fil-a.  I finished working while they played around town…and after work, I took Caitlyn and we did my grocery shopping and got manicures. 🙂 I LOVE spending time with this girl.
That hand with no polish?  That’s Tyler’s hand photobombing us.  Carry on…
That evening, mom made spaghetti (is there anything as good as my mom’s spaghetti?  I’m not sure…) and then Luke made me watch 1000 different videos of “What does the fox say?”  He LOVES that song and we watched every cover, high school band, and cartoon Youtube video of it.  I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
Saturday morning, we were up early for my work 5k.  I was going to be running it with Tyler…but he had some chest congestion, so he walked with the rest of the family while I ran. I had a time of 38:38 (had to walk a little bit…my legs haven’t ran in a while!)…but really enjoyed running in the brisk air.
Team U-Pack did great!
And I’m SO proud of my coworker Cydney…she got 1st place in our age group!  Woot!
A friend who works for the United Way caught this pic of me finishing the race!

After the race, I was sad because my friend Sarajane was getting married down in south-central Arkansas…and we couldn’t get there in time.  But the day was beautiful, so we decided to take a drive down the Talimena Scenic Drive.  We got to Mena…and it started raining! 🙁  We killed some time shopping around Mena, and then started up the mountain during a break.
The rain made it a little foggy, but we got some great views!
Look at these beautiful leaves.  God’s creation is so magnificent.
Favorite leaves.  We got out at the Kerr Nature Center up on the mountain and saw these gorgeous leaves.
The drive was so pretty!
Sunday, I taught my life group class because my teacher was out of town.  Then we met my family for lunch (my grandma and her boyfriend came to visit from Hot Springs).  Tyler and I went home to tidy up and clean (and PS. I’m SO thankful for a husband who is a real partner and helps me in every way!).  Then they came over to visit our house….and Tyler had us all in the yard shooting his new cross bow! Seeing my grandma and my dad shooting a bow was great! ha!
For dinner, we decided to hit up Gilley’s at the casino.  There was live music and line dancing (and the food was pretty good too!).  Of course, I had to join the line dancing!  It started off with just a couple ladies…but a few songs later, the dance floor was PACKED. So fun!
We also signed up for player’s cards at the casino (which will hardly be used….I’ve lived here for 3 years and NEVER been before! ha!)…but we got $10 each in free play for signing up.  We used their $10, and we kept “cashing out” every time we would win…and we walked away with $14 from their free money! Boom!  (However, because we were cashing out with each win…we had like 20 tickets to cash in! ha!)
We got home at like 10 pm….and then Tyler’s college roommate Bryce called to give us details about his wedding (Tyler will be a groomsman, so we got the lowdown first!).  We crashed and I slept like a baby.
Something about being surrounded by family, nature, and doing fun things made me just really grateful for all my blessings this weekend. I hope you had a great weekend!

Weekend Recap: So Many Pictures

Weekend Recap: So Many Pictures

We didn’t have a ton of plans going into this weekend…but we ended up having the MOST fun.
Friday, we went to the gym for a great swim/weights workout….and then had dinner and a little treat.  Tyler LOVES his sweets…so we had to get some Cherry Berry after dinner. 🙂
Saturday morning, I started cleaning.  I steamed all the kitchen counters (so I had to move everything to the table and ledge).  I also resealed the counters…and while I waited in between coats of sealant, I started cleaning the carpet. We got so much done.  It’s so good to get a clean house!
Around 12:30, Tyler got wind that his RC race that night was cancelled…so he said “Stop cleaning, let’s go to Balloon Fest.” Don’t have to tell me twice to stop cleaning. So we did!
We started by getting some lunch (BIG bummer…there were no Indian tacos! How do you have a festival in Oklahoma and no Indian tacos?!) and watching the BMX show.  BIG jumps from those crazy guys. I held my breath during a couple jumps.  A portable pop-up ramp and a tiny little arena were not made for flipping on a dirt bike.  Lord.
Next we went to the mud pits (so redneck!).  They were having Big Wheels races with little kids!  We were too far away to get any pics…but it was HILARIOUS.  I’m talking Barbie Jeep vs. Pink VW Bug vs.baby John Deere tractor.
Then they did the mud races. Souped up cars and trucks going through 6 feet of mud.  I was partial to the pink jeep…too bad she got it super muddy!

There were also Alpacas.  I’m in love with these funny creatures.

Me and my man having a good time at our little country festival.
We also caught the Nuts about Mutts show on the way out!  GREAT tricks from those rescue pups!  Loved it!
We left before the balloons came out to get ready for the Halloween party.  My friend Candyce had us all over for some fun….and since Tyler could go after all…we went as Phil and Miss Kay (from Duck Dynasty!)

All the girls together!

And my friend Jenny caught this shot…but I love it.  We do look in love like Phil and Miss Kay!
Sunday…I worked in the nursery, enjoyed church…and then we headed up to Mt. Magazine for lunch.  It’s the tallest place in Arkansas…and it was a clear day. You could see for 100s of miles!
After lunch, we stopped at the hang gliding point to watch!
This guy suited up, strapped in and walked to the ledge.
He ran about 10 steps down the hill and jumped…and AWAY he went!  CRAZY!
It was a gorgeous day to be outside enjoying God’s creation.  I’m just glad my feet stayed on the earth.
We had a great weekend…and I hope you did too!  What did you do this weekend?

Wild Things Farm- Pumpkin Patch

Wild Things Farm- Pumpkin Patch

Sunday while the family was in town, we trekked to the next town over in Poccola, OK to Wild Things Farm.  I’ve heard about this place every season.  They offer Christmas lights, picking berries, and in the fall, a pumpkin patch.  Our visit was super fun for me, mom, and the kids!
We arrived at Wild Things around noon and purchased wrist bands that covered most of the activities (including milking a fake cow!). I wasn’t very good at the milking, but mom was!
We started in the petting zoo seeing the animals. There were adorable goats and messy pigs. Once we got our fill of animals, we took a hayride across the field to the mud slide and corn maze! It was a muddy day, but nothing some tennis shoes, muck boots, and a hay ride couldn’t tear through.
It was a beautiful fall day.  Plenty of sunshine!
The tractor dropped us on at a big slide.  You climbed up the hill, were handed a sack, and slid down on a big slide.
The mud slide was AWESOME.  A big pile of dirt you slid down on a burlap sack. What more do you want?
After the slide, we ventured over to the corn maze.
The corn maze was fun, until we got lost and spend about 20 minutes more than we wanted in there.
I’ll tell you this: directionally challenged folks beware.  I could have wandered the maze all day and never found the exit.
Once we finished the corn maze, we took another tractor ride over to the pumpkin fields where we all picked pumpkins! They were the perfect size for painting.  Bigger pumpkins for carving (or pretty decorative pumpkins) were available for purchase at the farm store.
The day also included fun like a corn cannon.  Yes, a corn cannon. It was a little extra (like a few bucks), but I got to shoot a corn cannon! It used an air pressure cannon to shoot corn ears at a bullseye!  They also had pony rides and a kids area for a small extra fee.  The kids and I LOVED this place!
We came home and painted our pumpkins to round out a super fun fall day.

Weekend Recap: Family in iPhone Pics

Weekend Recap: Family in iPhone Pics

We had a reallllly low key weekend- which was fabulous.  I honestly had a little anxiety over the lack of plans. I’m just not used to it.  But it was good.
Friday evening, we hit up the local BBQ joint in our tiny town, and it was GREAT! Then we came home and watched a couple movies (The Expendables 2…which wasn’t my movie.  I did some online shopping instead.  And Mud.  It started off good…but I got comfy in my chair and fell asleep).
Saturday, I got up early to go workout before my massage at 11.  But on the way to the gym, the massuese called to cancel because she had a migraine.  But I did my workout anyway (triathlon training! woop!).
After the gym, I hit up a local boutique, Jamaica Me Bronze and got this ADORABLE chevron poncho cardigan.  Tyler said it looked like a horse blanket, but I liked it! ha!
We watched some DVR-ed TV, and then went to Mom’s.  Me and Mikey snuggle extra at mom’s…because he is trying to stay away from the other dogs!
It was drizzly and cold, but the hummingbirds didn’t seme to mind!
Around 3ish, my aunt, uncle, and cousins all arrived!  We had dinner, played the Wii, and watched the game.  I actually lost track and time and accidentally flaked on some plans I had made (I felt TERRIBLE…but thankfully my friend understood!).  That evening, we decided to go bowling which was fun with the kiddos.
Sunday, I did church by myself.  Tyler was with his dad…the family decided to sleep in…and my MIL was out of town.  I went to our contemporary service for a nice change.
After I got finished at church, we went to the pumpkin patch (more on that tomorrow!).
While the adults were busy cutting down a tree, I painted pumpkins with these crazies!
My finished products! (And that pumpkin was a “spooky pumpkin” and it was white to begin with!
When Tyler got back to town, we grabbed some dinner and had an early night.  I needed this low key weekend for sure. Hope you had a great weekend!
