Weekend Recap: Culture and Vacation Prep

Weekend Recap: Culture and Vacation Prep

This weekend was quite good.  Enough fun to not be boring, but plenty of downtime to prep for our upcoming vacation.

Let me start this recap with a funny I sent to my bestie, Alden.

Friday evening, I hung out at home catching up on the DVR. Tyler took an overtime job- so I had some alone time.

Saturday, I slept in, did some cleaning and packing…and some relaxing.

Pippin has the relaxing part down pat.

Saturday evening, Rachel and I headed out for a night of fun.  We got all fancied up (forgot to take a picture), had dinner, and then went to the Fort Smith Symphony.

Before the music performance, there was a lecture by an author and history professor. The night was inspired by WWII, so the lecture was about the Normandy invasion.

The music was awesome.  They played the Star Spangled Banner, a beautiful modern piece inspired by the war, and a Copeland piece written during the war.  #blurrypic #noflashattheSymphony

Sunday was our usual church and lunch, and then I went home for a quick nap.  I went back up to church to help Rachel decorate for an event, and then we went over to mom and dad’s for dinner and a movie.  It was beautiful outside, so we dined on the patio.

That was my weekend.  Lots of downtime, a little fun, and preparing for our upcoming vacation! It was great.

How was your weekend?  Have you ever been to the symphony?  It was my first time!

Life Update: Still Alive, Barely

Life Update: Still Alive, Barely

Whew!  I just got back to the land of the living from a TERRIBLE stomach bug.

Like, lost 10 pounds over 3 days stomach bug. (hey, it wasn’t all bad!)

Before that, I had a great week.

When I got back from Cleveland, I started my week off with a girls’ night at my friend Holly’s house.  She prepared a SPREAD for us and we talked, played games, ate, and enjoyed some wine (because girls’ night!).

On Wednesday after church, Tyler and I went to play tennis (please read that as Tyler suffered through my terrible athletic ability while trying to teach me how to play tennis and I try not to get frustrated at my lack of sportiness).

It was a beautiful night, and aside from my lack of ability, a great fun time.

Friday evening, I had a friend date with Rachel. We went to eat at Landry’s and then to see a murder mystery at the Little Theater.  Well, that fun got cut short when I got really sick at intermission.  Enter stomach bug. Ugh.  We have plans to go back this weekend to see how the play ends.  It was hilarious and wonderful and we have to know who the killer was!

So since the terrible bug hit me Friday night, I spent the rest of my weekend doing this…laying in bed, alternating sleeping and watching mindless television, covered in dogs.  They know when you don’t feel good, and they stick by your side.

The fever FINALLY went away Monday morning when I woke up.  I was glad to be feeling better, especially since we were celebrating Tyler’s birthday Monday night.  He hit 30 over the weekend, which was cause for celebration!  The whole family went out to eat at Bricktown Brewery, and he enjoyed this “29 and Holding” cookie cake!  Happy birthday, babe!

I’m so glad to be over this sickness, and will be compulsively washing my hands until we return from our Las Vegas trip in a couple weeks because I sure don’t want another round of sickness before then!

How’s life been for you?

A Beautiful Weekend

A Beautiful Weekend

I know we are about to head into the weekend…but I haven’t yet recapped LAST weekend! Ooops.  I’ve had a lot to say about last week’s trip to Cleveland to get caught up.

So I’ll recap life next week.  For today, I want to share last weekend with you.

I decided to carry by big camera around with me, so I sort of saw my weekend through a different lens.

Saturday morning started early (since I’m unable to sleep in most days) and I caught the sunrise, the fog, and the horses grazing in the yard.

I also sat out by the hummingbird feeder for a bit trying to capture the fast little boogers.

More lovely morning horses.  It was a gorgeous cool morning.

I decided to head down to the farmers’ market.  Summer may be winding down, but there was still a bounty there.  I bought some GORGEOUS dahlia’s.

And the light on the veggies was just beautiful.

I bought some fresh ginger, which was funky.

After the farmers’ market, I walked around downtown admiring the new murals.

We had The Unexpected Project bring artists from all over the world to paint murals. If you come to Fort Smith, check out the murals using this map.  And expect to see me down there admiring them a lot.

I loved this wild west mural.  Such fun color!

This was abstract, and later in the day got some Indian faces painted on top. I actually met some of the volunteers that were working on this one, and it was neat to talk to them about the project.

Students from the local college painted Gutenberg.

This human-bug hybrid was really neat.

And this Brazilian cowboy dance was unfinished.  But it’s HUGE.  Look at the car for size comparison.

This is a mole eating a worm.  And it’s freaky and wonderful.

This may have been my favorite because of how moving it was.  This is a portrait of a Cherokee woman.  So lovely.

There are many more murals I didn’t get to see (I stopped walking around downtown to head to Zumba), so I hope to explore more this weekend!

Weekend Recap: Fun and Family

Weekend Recap: Fun and Family

This weekend was great. Refreshing, relaxing, and fun.

I took a half day off work Friday to go get a massage (got a certificate for my birthday and it was burning a hole in my pocket).  Then I did some shopping (Hey TJ Maxx hey!).  I met up with Tyler (who is off on Fridays) and we walked the dogs and then headed to town for a movie/dinner date.

We saw Jurassic World, which was great. I am not super familiar with the Jurassic movies…but it was good.

We decided to get burgers afterwards and tried a new-to-us place.  The burgers were good.  Tyler got a big double…and finished every bite. 🙂

After dinner, I had rehearsal.  They walked through the first act…and it was so fun to see what they have been working on during rehearsals when I’m not there.

Saturday morning, I was up early to help the 4-H kids run a break station for the True Grit ride.  It’s a charity bike ride in town that offers 35, 50, 75, and 100 mile rides.  We ran the first break stop.  It was hot, so we had lots of visitors. 🙂

Saturday afternoon, we rescued our neighbor’s goat.  They are out of town, but a friend of ours is taking care of their house and animals.  And little Shadow got stuck.  So Tyler had to use bolt cutters to take out a section of fence and set him free.

Sunday, I sang at church (video here– I sing during the offering right before the sermon )

Then we had lunch together and waited for Tyler to come home. Once he got off work, we headed over to Oklahoma to visit Grandpa.  Mom, Nancy and I took a walk to see the horses.

And I may have chased this bunny into the field trying to catch it.  I want a bunny so bad.

We loved visiting and hanging out.  I loved this picture I snuck of Grandpa and Dad visiting in the living room.  They are quite a pair! IMG_2172

So that was my weekend.  Lots of fun and family time. How was your weekend?
