Weekend Recap: Reunion Fun

Weekend Recap: Reunion Fun

This weekend was Tyler’s 10 year high school reunion.  It was actually our third set of plans for this weekend.  We originally were supposed to be in Las Vegas on vacation…but then Tyler took a new job and we had to cancel that.  Then we made plans to be at OBU for homecoming and Tiger Tunes…but then the reunion popped up and we had to cancel that.  But even though this wasn’t our first pick of weekend plans, it was fun.

Friday, we went to the football game. Before the game, we went and split fajitas at a Mexican place in town, then we split some ice cream. 🙂 (oops.  Sorry diet.  It’s all about moderation!)

Greenwood is known for being a great team…and they played super well.  The band made me miss my high school experience the most.  No, I wasn’t in band…but we had a GREAT band and we would go to band competitions and be groupies.

Saturday morning, Tyler was up early to go hunting, and I did some cleaning around the house.  Then I met up with my life group to serve one of our members who is going through some family stuff….and then Tyler and I spent the afternoon hanging out at home.

Saturday night was the big reunion dinner downtown.  They had a great turnout with like 60 people from their class of 240 there.  1/4 of the class is pretty good.

They closed a local sushi place and had dinner, music, and mingling. Even though the music was too loud (who can talk and visit over pounding music?!), we stayed there until around 11…and then a group of us went to Emily and Ted’s house to visit and hang without the loud music over us. We stayed there until 2 a.m.!  Needless to say, Sunday we were pretty tired.  I was blessed with a great class in the nursery, and then took a glorious nap after lunch.

Sunday night, I did some batch cooking for the week while Tyler hunted.  He’s seen several deer, but hasn’t taken a shot yet.  Hoping for a deer this week!

So that was our weekend.  Tyler seeing old friends and me being the trophy wife. 🙂

How was your weekend? Have you been to a high school reunion yet?  This weekend made me think about mine next year…I guess I’ll decide that when the time comes.

FreedomFest 2014

FreedomFest 2014

Our little town throws a great 4th of July festival called FreedomFest.  It gets better every year, and to be honest, I’m happier there every year because Greenwood feels more and more like home.  It’s so fun to spend the holiday with so many friends…and this year all my family was there too!
We started our morning off with the 5K.  We did a pretty good time for walking it…we actually ran like 1/3 of it and finished in 45 minutes.  We were hoping to win the costume contest…but we didn’t. 🙁
After the race, we played around FreedomFest.  The kids played in the inflatables, we took a hayride, a trolley ride, and listened to the music.
We went home and rested a bit, and then we went back to the square for the evening festivities.
 Luke is such a ham!
The community donates tons of stuff for the event- they gave out free glowsticks, 3D glasses (to watch the fireworks through), flags, hot dogs, and more!
And then they put on a great fireworks show!  There were a couple rogue fires, but they still had a great show.
It was awesome to have all my people there.
Hope you had a great 4th!  We sure did!

Five on Friday: This Week

Five on Friday: This Week

I’m linking up with The Good Life Blog to show you my five things from this week.
1. Tuesday night, our friend Kolby came down from Fayetteville to spend the night.  She just wrapped up her semester of law school….and wanted a little break.  We ate dinner, talked and talked and talked, played boardgames, and Tyler taught Kolby how to shoot the crossbow! ha!  She loved it! SO good to spend time with friends.
2. If you follow me on Instagram (@brittneydeanne) you saw this in progress.  We were tie dying some clothing for my uncle for Christmas.  He’s gonna love it!  They turned out sooooo good!
3. Wednesday night after church, we went to our park for the Christmas lights display and live nativity.  This camel was being SO loud. Who knew camels made noise?  This one was almost mooing.
Fun to see hometown friends in the nativity scene!
And the lights were pretty too!
4. Last night we had Tyler’s dad’s family Christmas.  In the 7 Christmases we’ve spent together, we’ve never gone to their family gathering.  But we went last night.  I met some family members I had never met, we played dirty Santa (and boy, were some of the gifts not-so-great! ha!)…but the best part was winning $20 playing bingo!  BINGO!
5. At the party, my ear started to hurt.  And it got worse and worse.  On the way home, I was pretty miserable.  When we got my car (because we were coming from 2 different directions so we met in the middle) and I had to drive home, I almost felt drunk from being dizzy.  My ear hurt SO bad last night I was crying and almost wanted to go the ER.
Today, I went to urgent care (woohoo for being the first one in the door when they opened!) and the doctor said it’s “the worst ear infection I’ve seen in a long time.”  Opie.  No wonder it hurt so bad.  He gave me some antibiotics…and told me he would be right back with a pain med prescription.  Y’all.  It was for hydrocodone!  He told me that my ear looked so bad that he thought I would need something that strong for the pain.  I’m gonna sleep good tonight! ha!
Hope you have a good weekend!

Let Freedom Ring!

We had a great 4th of July.  The only thing that would have made it better is if I didn’t have to work the next day. Oh well…makes for a short week.
On Tuesday night after I got home from Zumba, and after dinner, we went for a little drive in the Mustang.  It was so nice outside, so with the windows down, it felt great!  We took some backroads and just enjoyed singing to the radio.  This is Tyler, driving a 68 Mustang, singing Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie.  Don’t tell him I snapped this picture.  He was jamming.
We slept in (or at least my definition of slept in…until 9:30…Tyler thinks sleeping in requires never seem a.m. on the clock!) and then got a late breakfast at Bob Evans!  It is new to our area, so this was our first time trying it out.  We have been to the one in Branson, and this one was just as good!
After brunch, we went across town to the hobby shop for Tyler to get some parts for his RC car.  The whole store looks like this:
Meaning, I spent my time in the chair at the front on Pinterest.  Tiny car parts don’t excite me.
After that, we came home…took a little nap…and then headed to my MIL’s for a cookout.  But the grill never got hot enough…so we cooked inside.  We had yummy food and then ventured into town for FreedomFest.  It is a big community festival with inflatables, vendors, food, music, and more.  We got there about 30-40 minutes before fireworks, so we listened to the band and walked around.
Then we got in the back of the truck and watched the fireworks.  There is a burn ban locally, so only professionals could shoot them off.  It was a good show.
After the fireworks, we went back to listen to some more music.  This is 10 Spur, a local band.  They are really good.  We stayed out WAY too late for me to have to get up at 4:45 on Thursday morning…but it made for a fun day.
How was your holiday?
