Weekend Recap: Miss AR, Bible Study, and a Gram Update

So, I have lots to tell you about from my weekend!
First off, I have a new Bible study that I have started from She Reads Truth.  I’ll explain it in more detail tomorrow, but I LOVED this verse I read over the weekend.  It is from the Message translation.  “This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need.  With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.”

Friday after work, I headed to Hot Springs fro Miss Arkansas!

It was a great time!  My best friend Alden and I go each year, and I LOVE it.  It is a big social event where we see lots of friends!
Best friends! 🙂  So thankful for this girl!
We saw one of our Tri Chi little sisses, Jenna.  Jenna’s sister Abby was competing and she did great.
We also saw some more Tri Chi friends.  This is Lauren (a girl who was a couple years older than me, and mentored me with Tiger Tunes stuff and showed me how to have fun), Alden, Me, and Pooh (a couple years younger and the sweetest, most dependable friend you could have!
We laid out for a few hours on Saturday and then got ready for the pageant.
This is Kaitlyn (Alden’s friend who came with us!), Alden, and me.
Our friends did pretty well Saturday night with several making the Top 10.  Sloane Roberts won, and she very much deserved the title.
Sunday, I snuggled with this little guy!  I love Cabo!

We had lunch and then went to visit Gram!
Gram has been transferred to the nursing/rehabiliation home.  The surgery is showing some improvements, but she has a long way to go.  She is beginning to regain some movement, starting to feed herself.  She will start therapy today to work on walking, stairs, and also fine motor skills.  However, she is still pretty confused about things.  While her speech abilities are back (and BOY is she talkative!), but she is not clearly remembering details.  She was talking about a friend who lives right down the street from her, and she said “She lives on Devon and Central”  well, those are streets in Chicago close to where Gram lived over 15-20 years ago. However, the doctors have told us to correct her on the big stuff (where she is, who is she, what happened) but not on the little details.  It doesn’t really matter at this point where she thinks her friend lives.
We are praying that she cooperates in therapy and continues to improve.  We are also praying for her stubborn nature to dissolve.  She gets pretty stubborn with the nurses at meal times.
After visiting Gram, I came home and took a nap, then hit the road. I got to listen to some new road tunes: Hanson’s 5 of 5 cd in the DVD set!  Mom got me this for my birthday and I LOVE it!  It is a 5 DVD set of live concerts, and then a CD of live music.  You know I love some Hanson, so I adore that I can have a live concert on demand. 🙂

I came home and visited with Tyler and his mom before crashing pretty late.  Today is work, chiropractor, and water aerobics after work.  A good Monday.
Have you ever been to a pageant?  Was it toddlers and tiaras style? Or more like a Miss America pageant (which is what Miss Arkansas is….the Arkansas state title for qualifying for Miss America).

Why I Love Hanson (aka the blog post I dreamt about)

This may sound crazy, but I dreamt about this blog post. Yup. I don’t really know why, but after dreaming about it, I figured I should write it. I would like to tell you about my favorite band, Hanson, and why their music is so special to me.
I first heard of Hanson because my Aunt Sandy had their CD. She brought it to my house. Sandy was just a few years older than me and I always thought she was cool. I tried to be like her. So naturally, the next time we were at the mall, I HAD to buy the CD at the music store. I loved it. I listened to it all the time. I was in 5th grade in 1997 when it came out. I have such vivid memories of being with my friends listening to their music.
One memory is going to see Titanic in theaters. My mom took me and some friends to see it. On the way there, “Where’s the Love” came on the radio and we sang and danced in the car (who DOESN’T love car dancing?). I hardly remember seeing the movie, but the memory of laughing with my friends to that song will be with my forever.
Another is that we went to Branson several times each summer.  I knew the Hanson CD was 58 minutes long (ha!).  The drive to Branson was 4 hours, so I would listen to it on repeat 4 times and we would be there!
Their Christmas CD, Snowed In, was a staple blaring in our house during Christmas season.
I sort of went on the backburner as a fan for a couple years. I got their CD “3 Car Garage” but wasn’t too crazy. Then I met a friend in Junior High who was also a “fanson” if you will.  🙂 Caitlyn bought me “This Time Around” for my 13th birthday in 2000. Obsession set in.
In 2004 when “Underneath” came out, their song “Penny and Me” was the epitome of a windows-rolled-down-radio-blaring song. Many stressful days after school were spent taking the long drive home and listening to that album.
I went to my first concert in 2004, and then I was really hooked. Seeing Hanson live is so wonderful. I say it’s the closest thing to a spiritual experience outside of church! They are just so passionate about the music and it carries over the crowd.
Hanson in Memphis in 2010.
In college, I met some more Hanson fan friends and my friend Liz and I went to The Walk tour in Austin in 2007. We even took a barefoot walk with them before the concert.
On “The Walk” with Zac (my favorite member of Hanson!)
Liz and I listened to nothing but Hanson music on the whole 7 hour drive down there and back.
Liz getting her shirt sized by Issac.
I got another friend really into their music and we saw them in 2010 and 2011 in Memphis.
When we got married in 2010, MMMBop was our last dance. It was so fun to swing around the dance floor with the love of my life to the music that always brings a smile to my face.
When I have a bad day at work, turning on their music makes it better. I don’t know what it is. I know Hanson doesn’t do it for everyone. Maybe you have a band whose music just takes you back and makes you happy. But for me, its Hanson.

Friday Randoms

-I got a sample of Strawberry Shakeology.  I was “meh” about it.  I LOVE strawberry milk, so I was hoping that it would taste like that.  And it did.  But it was sorta chalky in texture.  Gotta decide if I can handle a whole bag of it before I switch my order from Greenberry/Chocolate combo to all Strawberry.

-My life is crazy busy.  This weekend we have a Zumba party Friday night and a Zumba training on Saturday.  Saturday evening I am going to a women’s conference thingy with my MIL.  Hopefully Sunday I can rest!

-Our anniversary is in just a couple weeks!  March 13!  The following weekend we are taking a little weekend trip to Eureka Springs!  I can hardly wait!

-I am finishing Made to Crave (a book about craving God, not food).  I also bought and have started the 60 day devotional.

-I am going to attempt to make my mornings uber productive.  My new job requires me to be at work at 7, so instead of waking at at 6, I will wake up at 5.  I don’t really mind that.  I am a morning person.  But I usually lounge around and take my time. With all that time, I should be able to get a few things done.  Hopefully: regular devotional time, a 15-30 minute workout, and getting ready.  I am going to try to fit all that in.  I have had times where I am faithful to one or the other, but I think I need both in my daily life.

-I am already worried about my first day of work outfit..and its over a week away.

-I am thinking about a black tunic and leopard belt for said outfit at this moment.

-I want Hanson to be touring now.  I could really use a live concert.  It makes the deepest parts of my being happy.  Guess youtube vids of them live will have to do.  This one is a personal favorite from their 5 of 5 tour (you are welcome Kristin!)  It was one of my favorite songs from their very first album (aka when I fell in love with Hanson).

Hit a New {Hanson} Low

So I know I have shared before about my love for Hanson.  And I know a few of my bloggy friends have the same obsession love for Hanson…I wanted to share this funny thing from today. I have XM radio in my car and I often like to listen to talk radio, one of my favorite stations is Cosmo radio. Lots of funny stories, celeb gossip and fashion advice (like the mag).
Well, I follow one of the hosts on Twitter, and I’m at work and my Twitter feed tells me that Hanson is on their show today while I was at work! Well, I got online and immediately subscribed to XM online so I could listen to it at work! ha!
And they even talked about Arkansas and how the only time they have played here was for a Walmart Shareholders Meeting (if you are from NWA, you know what that is…if you aren’t….its a big meeting every year for people who are Walmart share holders…and there are always concerts and stuff).
I loved getting to hear my faves live talking on the radio. They didn’t sing (or if they did I missed it).
Hopefully I will hear it replayed at some point over the weekend so I can hear the whole interview.
PS. The more interviews I hear with Zac, the more at peace I am that we didn’t end up married. (yes, this is a true statement. I used to honestly believe he was my soulmate). He talks about playing video games all.the.time. I don’t think I could handle that. I would love to kiss those pouty lips…..and have him sing to me whenev…but the video games are just the deal breaker. And yes, I’m totally out of control.
