Hanson Day 2018: Day 2

Hanson Day 2018: Day 2

We had an interesting night- Emily’s roommate had an issue back at home and called her at just after midnight to handle it. But after some stirring in the night, we slept in and went to breakfast at Dilly Diner.

Continuing the theme of food as big as my head, I got this GIANT cinnamon roll. It was AMAZING.

One of our favorite things to do on Saturday is to walk around the Blue Dome Arts Festival.  Music, amazing artists and food trucks- what more can you want?

We all did quite a bit of shopping around the festival and enjoyed the sunshine.

After the festival, we walked towards the art gallery and found a SUPER cute shop called Made.  We all bought treasures there, and then headed to the art gallery.  You can’t take pictures in there, but I did buy a canvas print that Zac made for my dining room!

After the gallery, it was definitely pool time!  It was warm and sunny and we hung out at the pool for a couple of hours.

I love the rooftop pool at the Hyatt. It’s so neat to see this perspective on the city.

It was neat to see signs all across the area welcoming fans.  This was the biggest H Day crowd yet, so there were lots of us crawling around downtown.

After swimming, we got ready for the concert! Another fun night at Cain’s!

The show was great. They played the new EP, fan club music from years past and then some classics.

After the concert, we headed to dinner at Yokozuna- where we lucked into NO WAIT AT ALL.  Amazing sushi, great drinks and lots of laughs.

Hanson Day 2018: Day 1

Hanson Day 2018: Day 1

One of my favorite weekends of the year just happened- Hanson Day!  I’ve been a Hanson fan for 21 years- and for the last 10 years, they’ve treated their fan club members to a fun event and concert in Tulsa.

I’ve attended the last 6 years. This year, my friend Amber and her friend Emily all headed to Tulsa for a 3 day weekend.

We had the BEST weekend. Somehow, our timing was awesome all weekend and we only waited in ONE LINE all weekend (for the store- about 45 minutes).

Seriously. We got there and registered with like two people ahead of us.  Walked right into pictures with the band. Then we hit the store. It was a little warm while we waited, but we had a good time hanging out.

We made a stop by the mural wall.

We took a detour away from downtown to see the campus of the University of Tulsa. It was a BEAUTIFUL day and the campus was quiet without any students. It was gorgeous.

This is their library and giant lawn.

We got back downtown and parked for the Storytellers Concert.

I have deep love in my heart for Cain’s Ballroom.  Yes, it was the first place I ever saw Hanson back in 2004, but I’ve also seen other artists here (Pentatonix, Karmin) and had AMAZING nights here. It was a gorgeous Tulsa day.

In the past, they’ve done lectures for the Friday fan club event, but last year’s Storytellers talk turned into an acoustic show- so they went with that.  They played a TON of music, mostly from Middle of Nowhere or the Albertane tour (which happened 20 years ago). So much fun!

After the concert, we checked into the hotel, freshened up and headed to my FAVORITE for dinner: Caz’s Chowhouse.  Thankfully, it’s become one of Amber’s faves too- so she asked to go. YES.

Ya’ll.  I got a chicken fried steak and it was THE SIZE OF MY HEAD. And it was wonderful.  I didn’t finish it, but it was amazing.

After dinner, we went across the street to Glacier for chocolates!  Always a favorite.

We had a GREAT first day. More to come!

Hanson Day Weekend 2017

Hanson Day Weekend 2017

This was my 5th Hanson Day event. It may have been my favorite one yet.

We headed out Friday morning after dropping Remi off at daycare (shoutout to the grandmas and Tyler for keeping her at home so I could have a fun weekend. It was much needed, and she had a blast at home without me).

We got to Tulsa right as the rain was rolling in.  We pulled out our rainjackets and headed to Cain’s to register.

The bottom DROPPED out right as we got to Cain’s. Poor Amber got a wet butt trying to get inside, but we were mostly spared.

img_3581

After we registered, we waited in line for pics with the band. We took our pic with the band before our pic with the band. ha!

img_2499

After we met the band, we got in line for the store. We waited like 3 hours in the rain (#hardcore) but we got our shirts and such. Then we went to Cain’s for the “lectures.”  We thought they were just going to talk about Middle of Nowhere and some other song history….but they did like a 2.5 hour acoustic storyteller session instead. It. Was. Amazing.

img_3596

They played deep cuts that they hardly ever play- including Yearbook!  I have loved that song since I was 10. And I finally got to hear it!img_3607

After the lectures/concert, we went to dinner at Hey Mambo with a couple of my friends who were also there.  The power went out while we were eating, which was interesting. They kept cooking, the musicians kept playing….we just ate by flood lights. ha!

img_3634

Saturday was a SPECTACULAR day.

We started with Hurts Donuts for breakfast. Yes, please.img_2560-1

I got a Jjesus (cinnamon sugar frosted and a maple bacon bar….I could only eat like 1/3 of it all).img_3641

It was sunny (thank you, Lord!) but was a little cool, so we had jackets on. We walked down from the Blue Dome District to the art gallery. img_2554

At the art gallery, they also had Hanson memorabilia. We got to take pics with the original MMMBop pansy. It was amazing to stand there with history (even if the photo booth pics are bad quality).

img_3644

On the way back, we stopped by the “Center of the Universe” a strange statue and an echo circle. img_2574

This is our feet in the center of the universe. 🙂img_3648

We headed to the Blue Dome Arts Festival next where we bought some super cute artwork, ate yummy food truck goodness and listened to live music. These were bacon bombs from MASA- shrimp, cheese, and peppers wrapped in bacon. img_3652

After lunch, we went back to the hotel for some relaxation time. We spent it in the warm sunshine (now that it warmed up) by the rooftop pool. So wonderful. img_3660

After we got ready, we headed back to the store to grab some EPs and we visited the 3CG wall mural. img_2602-1img_2604-1

After the store, we went in for the concert. 1,200 fans makes for a long line.

img_3673

They played a GREAT show. The new EP (In Color), lots of fan club classics, and plenty of normal Hanson music. The disco ball came on at Cain’s and we partied. Love. img_3697

I am so thankful that my favorite band makes such special times for their fans. We are so lucky. img_3706

My 5th Hanson show with this girl! At my most favorite venue. img_2660

Sunday we grabbed breakfast, went by Trader Joe’s and came home. Amber had a long drive ahead of her, so we didn’t stay for their beer/music festival. It was SUCH A GREAT weekend. Lots of laughs, good food, relaxation, and amazing music.
