Friday Five: Five Things to Be Thankful For This Week

Friday Five: Five Things to Be Thankful For This Week

This week has had some ups and downs…but I’m focusing on the good today.  I mean, it IS Friday after all!

So here are five things I’m thankful for this week.

1. A gorgeous sunset and this sunset view from our front porch.

2. And a dog who will sit in my lap in a comfy chair to watch said sun set.

3. And these two guys beside me.

4. For our home. And our land.

5. And for a husband who cooked this AMAZING dinner last night.  Deer steaks, black beans and corn, and green beans.  He’s a keeper for sure!

So that was the highlights from this week.

I hope you have had a great one.

What are you thankful for today?

Weekend Recap: Pics and Bullet Points

Weekend Recap: Pics and Bullet Points

First order of business- it’s my birthday week!  While I do have some fun things planned (concert, dinner with the family), I’d really LOVE to use my birthday for a different purpose.  If you enjoy reading this blog, if you like me enough to wish me a Happy Birthday…I’d love for you to channel that energy into giving. My friend Rachael is currently serving in Cambodia…and she is trying to raise $1,100 to fly home. She hasn’t seen her family in 2 years, and needs to come home to visit and raise more funds so she can go back. You can give online here, just select Allen, Rachael. ANY donation helps, but I suggest $27, since I’ll be turning 27. 🙂
This weekend didn’t have anything notable. But it did have lots of rest, lots of catching up on things, and lots of laughter. Here’s how it went down:
  • Friday after work, we hit up Movie Lounge to see Draft Day and eat dinner.  The movie was good, the food was good…but they’ve changed their menu (and the prices are higher!) and I wasn’t a huge fan.
  • Saturday, I slept until 9, and then I got ready to go teach Zumba. My friend Brandy is out of town, and I got to sub her class.
  • I also hit up Carrot Dirt, a local organic juice place.  I got some juices for the week.  They are SO good (and this blueberry almond milk? To die for.)
  • On the way home, I stopped by Harps to grocery shop.  I don’t usually go to Harps (it just isn’t entirely convienently located for me) but I LOVE their deals. They have 5 for $25 meat and 5 for $10 veggie packs. Got some good stuff and I’m all stocked up for healthy eating.
  • We grilled dinner Saturday night and mom and dad came over.  Chicken, hot dogs, veggies, pineapple, and corn. YUM. I also ate leftovers Sunday night for dinner.
  •  Sunday, after church, I took a nap and then I got busy outside.  I planted two rows of sunflowers by our barn.  Digging in the ground is hard!  I also helped Tyler mow.

  • Then the MOST MAGICAL thing happened while we were driving through the field.  We were going to change out the cards in the wildlife camera…and on the way back, we saw a newborn baby dear!  We almost accidentally hit it, but it jumped out of the way and we watched it hop away.  It was precious.  It’s rare to see them that tiny. (Dear not pictured, but you can see how tall our grass is in our pasture, so you can see why the baby dear was hiding there.)

How was your weekend?

Friday Five: Country Life

Friday Five: Country Life

This week I’m highlighting some things about country living.  We only live 20-30 minutes from “town” but sometimes it feels a world away.
1. We were walking the other night and Tyler looked over the bridge and saw a HUGE snake (poisonous because the triangle head).  He came back later (on his golf cart) and shot it.  When you live in the country, you know these poisonous snakes could hurt us, our pets, or someone’s livestock…so you shoot it. (It’s on the lighter rock in the left side of the screen….the snake is the big windy thing on the rock.  And this is from 30 feet up on a bridge over the water.  It was a BIG one.)
2. I picked wildflowers on the same walk.  They are so pretty.
3. I WISH these were in my yard, but they are in my friend Kristin’s cousin’s yard…but how ADORABLE are these baby bunnies? New goal in life: have a bunny nest in my yard.
4. We bought catfish food to feed the fish in our pond. They are pretty big…and it’s fun to go down there at night and feed them. We even get them jumping around.
5. This isn’t country life related, but I got the Go VoxBox from Influenster.  Some protein shakes and a shaker, insoles, foot scrubber, bath salts, blueberry almonds, and some tampons. I’ve already tried the vanilla shake…it’s super good!  Can’t wait to check out the other goodies.
Do you live in the country?  Or are you a city girl?  What are you up to this weekend?  Anything fun?  I’ll be sleeping and cleaning and doing laundry from our NYC trip! Have a great Friday!

Five on Friday: PTL

PRAISE THE LORD IT’S FRIDAY. Can I get an amen?!
This week was good, but it felt long.
This week…
1. Tyler got another motorized vehicle.  We now own a jacked up golf cart.  It’s got a 6 inch lift and mud tires. We drove it around the evening after we got it.

I had never been to the back corner of our 20 acres (because that’s too far to walk to look at the fence and trees) but we drove to it.  Our land is pretty. 🙂

2. I bought a Fiesta poster on eBay.  I can’t wait to hang it in my dining room.
3. I got a trim this week and my hair was looking good.  My good hair day was Thursday. But it POURED down rain and ruined it.
4. Thursday (before the rain ruined my hair) I went on a field trip! My work is “partners in education” with and elementary school, and I volunteered to help on their field trip to the nature center.  We learned all about animals, painted fish (below), went fishing, and played some games.  These 1st graders were awesome.  Except when like 4 of them cried because they ran out of chocolate milk at lunch.

5. Shopping confession: When I was out shopping for potential Hanson Day outfits on Tuesday, I was at a super cute boutique.  I took several items into the fitting room.  I almost got stuck in one shirt and I couldn’t figure out how to get it on.  Turn out….it was a romper.  I was trying to squeeze my upper body through a leg hole.
Have a great Friday!
