Weekend Recap: HOMECOMING and other fun!

The weekend was basically full of fun, friends, and food (too much food…hello tubby!).
Friday at work, we had a cookout.  This was the spread at lunch.  YUMMY burgers and sides.

Friday after work, I ran some errands and then we headed home to my parents’ house in Hot Springs.
We ate dinner (yummy chicken noodle soup!) and hung out before heading to bed.
We were up bright and early Saturday to drive down to Arkadelphia for OBU Homecoming!
I got to see my Tri Chi sisters at the alumni tea!
This was my sweet Tri Chi family.  Some of these girls I had never met before, but they were too sweet.  I feel so old!  I was the oldest member of our family that was there…so these are all my babies.
Aren’t they beautiful?
My pledge class was 40 girls, but this was the turnout on Saturday!  This was the first year that we didn’t know anyone still in the club, so lots of girls didn’t come back for Homecoming. But I was soooo glad to see these sweet sisters!

We had lunch with some friends, but didn’t take any pics.
It was COLD Saturday…so we only made it through the first quarter of the football game.  But the Tigers are amazing this year (undefeated!) and won their game.
Then we came back to the student center to drink coffee and hang out.

We got to get to know my BFF’s boyfriend, Mike.  I met him before, but didn’t get to know him.  We LOVED him and can’t wait to hang out again!  (Tyler gave him the “vacation together” seal of approval…so Mike is in good with us! 🙂 haha) Didn’t get any pics of Mike..but here is my beautiful best friend, Alden, and I.

We had dinner with some of Tyler’s pledge brothers and then went to the main event: TIGER TUNES!
Tyler’s club- Kappa Chi- they were policemen.

My ladies of Tri Chi- their theme was Circus!

Sunday, my family got up early and headed downtown for breakfast.  There is a pancake shop that is AMAZING.  They make their own sausage and I swear I could eat my weight in that stuff.  This was ALL our food (for just 5 people!)

We had to leave pretty early so I could get back in time to teach Zumba.
It was a great weekend overall!

Headed Home {OBU Homecoming}

This weekend is homecoming at our alma mater, Ouachita Baptist University.  It is a wonderful place.  Somehow, spending four years on this campus, with the most amazing people, makes this place feel like home as much as sleeping in my old bed at my parent’s.  There is something magical at OBU.  Just walking around campus, seeing friendly faces, and remembering is so wonderful.
Along with seeing friends, new buildings, and reliving memories…one of the highlights is Tiger Tunes.  I’ve talked about it before, but wanted to repost about it.
I blogged about the Sailor show (from my senior year…when I was director) here.
I finally found the Farmer show video online (it was hidden in years of photos). I was the assistant director (and had a solo…Heat Wave!). Good show.  We placed third (by a miracle! it was a good show, but there were lots of good shows that year!).  PS. you might want to turn your volume down before watching.  My friends who were filming screamed awfully load at the beginning. (Hey Walley and Kenley!  If you are reading…miss you!)

I was also a Tunes Host my sophomore year (blogged a bit about that here). We basically rocked the house.  Like students at OBU still talk about how amazing our year of hosts were (not brag…but we were awesome.)

And we can’t forget when we were Christmas elves my freshmen year.  That was a trainwreck of a show…but it was fun! 🙂
I can’t wait to see my lovely ladies of Tri Chi in their “Circus” themed show this year! Hope they take home the top prize!
See ya after the weekend!

Flashback Friday: My Drop

It might be called a drop, a pin, a lavalier, or any number of things.  It means a boy gives you some symbol from his fraternity (or our case, social club) to show that he is serious with you.  It is a sort of pre-engagement step, if you will.
Well, Tyler dropped me the fall of my senior year.
Tyler and I went on a date.  We ate dinner at Olive Garden and then went downtown to walk around art galleries.
On our date.  I was totally unsuspecting.

We went into one gallery and I took a potty break.  When I came out, I was admiring some of the handmade jewelry and saw his letters, KX, hanging there.  I said, “Oh look, she must make drop necklaces!” haha Ooops.  He told me the necklace was mine if I would accept it.  I gladly did!

After a drop, if you are in a sorority, or girl’s social club (OBU doesn’t have sororities or frats…we have social clubs)…then you have a blowout.  Its a good thing!
We circle up, dim the lights and pass around a lighted candle.  The first loop around is for friendship, basically so everyone gets to touch the candle.  And it heightens the excitement.  The second loop is for a drop.  The third loop is for an engagement.  And we have a fourth loop for pregnancy, which we have used a couple times (none when I was a student) for married members who get preggo.
Basically, as the candle circles on the appropriate round, whoever is making their announcement blows out the candle!  It’s so fun!
Here is a video from my blowout!

Then you stand on a table and tell your story to the club.
And then you take pictures!  🙂

I still have my KX necklace.  After I got dropped I pretty much wore it every day, like it was an engagement ring.  Now, I just have it as a keepsake.  No one would understand outside of campus.  But to me, it was special.

My pledge class admiring my new jewelry! 🙂

Flashback Friday! Tiger Tunes- Tri Chi Sailor Show

At OBU, we have a big show every fall called Tiger Tunes.  It is super fun/competitive for people in clubs.  I was honored to be the director my senior year with one of my best friends Amy.  We had dreamed this show up over the course of our college career.  While we didn’t win or place (which was totally devastating!)….I do like remembering the fun and the hard work that went into the show.

Each club puts on a 6 minute performance around a theme.  We were sailors on the USS Tri Chi.  Each club performs and is judged.  We DID win musicality one prelim night, which was HUGE for our club.

This is our whole group of Sailors.  Aren’t we cute?
This photo is a funny rehearsal memory.  During practice one night, when we heard the girls singing a song after learning the harmonies, we cried because it sounded so great.   It was SUPER funny to everyone that they were singing made up lyrics to Gangsta’s Paradise and made us cry.
This photo really makes me laugh.  We won a prelim award the first night, and then we didn’t win anything else.  Our girls were getting really discouraged.  I felt like we were thisclose behind everyone.  I wanted them to give a final push and give their all, not give up.  I found a Youtube video of the Michael Phelps swimming race where he came from behind and won by a hair.  We watched it. (you can see him swimming on the screen behind me).  They caught the vision of giving the final push and chanted USA all the way to the stage that final night!  Too funny!
These crazy faces were right after we won the musicality award on Thursday night.  It meant we got the top scores for how good we sounded singing.  That was the only award we won.  But man, we were excited!  I love this photo.  Its me on the L, Amy (my best friend and co-director) and Sarajane (another best friend).  Not sure who the other head belongs to, but I love how we were freaking out for winning something!
We may not have won, but were super cute sailors! 🙂

Check out the video!  🙂
