Dallas Weekend!

We had the best weekend in Dallas. We went for business for Tyler, but we managed to have a ton of fun in the process.

We left Friday morning and Friday evening when we got to Dallas, we had Tyler’s parts company’s convention. It was at the Arlington Convention Center (sandwhiched in between Ranger’s stadium and Cowboy’s stadium and Six Flags). There were lots of vendors set up around the room to meet with, and Tyler got some great deals for his motorcycle business. They also fed us a wonderful dinner.

This was us on self-timer after the dinner.

Saturday morning, we got up and headed out on the town. Tyler wanted to go to a big hobby shop to look at RC cars (he is all boy) and so we traveled up to Plano to go to this shop we found. It was neat to look at all the radio controlled toys (boats, helicopters, planes, cars, trucks).

Then we went to Ann Taylor for me and then we went here for lunch: The Blue Goose Mexican Cantina.

We went to the Blue Goose years ago when we were on one of Ty’s fraternity outings, and we like it then. So we found it and went back and had a delicious mexican lunch.

Then we headed to the main event: the Monster Supercross. We got free tickets and pit passes from his parts company, so we had a day of fun on them! The race was at Cowboy’s stadium!

We started out at the pit party in a big parking lot across the street. Tons of stuff going on: demos of fun products, contests, dancing ladies (not my favorite part), and tons of people walking around taking it all in.
Tyler’s favorite thing was seeing the demo of these fancy RC cars…the Traxxus Revo. He really wants one. He got to see it in action. See the car in the air by the M in Monster? This thing could flip and fly!
We were also treated to food and drinks by the parts company at the nice Thor apparel area.
Then we headed to the stadium (behind the tents) for the qualifying races.
This was once we got inside. The HUGE jumbotron inside. This thing is massive.
We were excited!
We watched several qualifying races and then the main event started. There was awesome colored fire shooting out from the starting gate.
And there was fireworks. They opened the roof at the stadium, which was so nice as it was a beautiful Spring evening.
Then the races started! They were so exciting and great races! This was our favorite guy Chad Reed #22. He unfortunately had a crash mid race and didn’t finish in the top five, but he’s still our favorite!
Sunday we met some friends from college for lunch (Liz, Michael and Jessica) but my camera died. We had a great time catching up and being all together again.

Then we headed home. We were so happy to be reunited with our Mikey! Now for the busy week….

Dirt Bikes and Dancing

Here are some pics from the Zumba Party in Pink three hour Zumbathon! This is me, Laveda, and Anna. They are two other TAs with me. We had a blast! Anna is from Brazil and she was awesome at the latin dances! She is also a mother of 3?4? (multiple children) and a full time Ph.D. student. Doesn’t she look great?
This was the whole gym. There were so many women (and one man!) dancing the night away! I heard we raised over $2000 for Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Saturday we celebrated Tyler’s birthday at the shop (with some AMAZING chocolate cake…and yes, I had a few bites), and then me, Tyler and his mom Nancy went to look at some land. We found some we absolutely love. It was beautiful, relatively flat and ready to build on, was on a slight hill, and had a gorgeous sunset view. Now we are just waiting on the price. Hope its affordable!

We spent Saturday at Nancy’s and went Sunday to ride dirt bikes. Well, they went to ride, I went to watch. The track was awesome. It was at this random house near some land we looked at, and Tyler just went and knocked on the door and talked to the guy. He invited us out to come ride. He didn’t charge anything. And it was so nice and so fun! The track was race quality for sure, and the boys said it was actually a quite difficult track. But by the end of the day, they were doing great on it!

This is Tyler on his four wheeler…

And this is JJ on the Beta dirt bike.
And this woman never ceases to amaze me. Tyler’s mom on her dirt bike riding the track. She even tried a few jumps at the end of the day.

It was a fun weekend and Tyler had a great birthday!

Epic Crash

My husband had an epic dirt bike crash this weekend. Luckily, he is fine. But let me tell you about how we get there.
So Saturday I went to work with him, like I do most Saturdays. It is fun to be there, help, and nice to spend extra time with him. Well, he remembered that on Sunday, there were some dirt bike races in town…and he and his mechanic, JJ, thought about them all day.

These guys are not good enough riders to ride in the big boy races (the big bikes and the adults), so they decided to ride pit bikes (smaller bikes you might see children on).

Tyler on a pit bike at the race. Its mini.
Pit bikes, however, are usually ridden by adults. So they spent late Saturday and early Sunday morning souping up their new pit bikes. These bikes were just out of the crate new, so there was work to be done. Sweet JJ, the mechanic, put it like 8 hours getting these bikes ready.

So we hauled over to the race (which thankfully, was in the same town as Ty’s shop…so we didn’t have far to go), and signed them up for the race. Me, Ty’s mom, his uncle and two nieces all came out to watch.

The track and arena.
We watched them (and every other rider) do the two rounds of warmups…then the races began. There were two rounds of races, with the second race being the one determining the winners.

During the first real race (which was pretty much another warm up, since it didn’t matter what place you came in) Tyler was dragging behind. He is a bigger guy, and his weight was keeping him down. And one guy in the race was coming around the track about to lap Tyler. He got nervous. He knew he wouldn’t win, but he didn’t want to get lapped. So he stepped on it, so to speak.

Well, he got too carried away, and went head over the handlebars over a bump in the track. I gasped as I watched my husband tumble off a dirt bike onto the ground. His legs were sore from all the riding, so as he stood up, he wobbled and kind of fell again. Gasp again. I thought he had injured his head or spine from the wobbly stand.

But he was fine. He did break his bike pretty good (tail section plastics, clutch lever, and some other stuff I didn’t know what it was), but he was fine.

Not sure we will be racing again anytime soon. And I’m glad for that.

Its been a while…

So sorry I’ve been busy with other things. But here is a short summary of what I’ve been up to.

We went to a dirt bike race….

I went to graduation at OBU to watch my best friend graduate! And the night before, I met up with several great friends and pledge sisters and we had a little fun!

And we went to Dallas to the motorcycle auction. It was crazy! So many bikes and 4wheelers, and dirt bikes, and everything else. This picture is like 1/3 of it all. I think I helped Tyler out a little bit by being there, so I’m gonna go again with him next month.

We are trying to move this week. Whew for that! Can’t wait for more space and a bigger bed! Amen!

And I started working out again with my friend Laveda. The classes we are going to are hardcore. They are kind of p90x style of body confusion. I’m sore and tired, but we are determined to work out 3-4 times a week. Let’s go.

I’m also working on transcribing interviews for a prof (gonna get carpal tunnel by the end of summer) and my research. Lots to do!
