Valentine’s Then and Now

Valentine’s Then and Now

My bloggy friend Jessica did something similar and I liked it. So here we go…

We’ve had some fun Valentine memories over the years. Fun dates to Movie Lounge with friends, leaving love notes all around the house, and fancy dates – but I want to remember our very first Valentine’s day together.

Back in 2008, Tyler and I had only been officially dating for a couple months.

We were in college, so there wasn’t a huge budget for fancy dates. He took me 45 minutes away to “town” to have dinner at Red Lobster. While we were in the parking lot, an old lady pulling into her parking spot hit his car! She didn’t really do any damage, so he let her pretend like she didn’t hit him. She never even noticed we were still in the car, much less that she hit anything!

Tyler bought me a High School Musical balloon. I joke that even back then, he knew the way to my heart: musicals and cheese biscuits.

This year, Valentine’s day looked quite different.

A work day. I had a dentist appointment at lunch, and Tyler was working overtime until 9:30 pm.

But he got 15 minutes at lunch, so I snuck out just before my dentist appointment and we grabbed lunch together at Taco Bell! ha!

While I was at the dentist, he left a card and flowers for me on my desk.

After work, I picked up cupcakes for him to enjoy when he got home.

He worked late, I spent the evening with Remi…and once she went to sleep I took a bath and went to bed early.

Life looks a lot different. It’s not spontaneous and crazy and fancy. But it’s perfect.

Weekend Recap: Valentine Fun

Weekend Recap: Valentine Fun

I had a good weekend this weekend.  Sadly, I didn’t get to spend too much time with my Valentine since our schedules were opposite, but it was good nonetheless.

Friday night, Ty worked overtime at the mall and I went over to mom’s for dinner.  My grandma and cousin came up from Hot Springs, so we cooked dinner and played some games.

Then on Saturday, we had a little Galentine’s Day. We did some shopping, eating, and saw Mamma Mia at the Walton Arts Center.  The show was GREAT!

We did lots of laughing and had a great time together.

Sunday, Tyler was working, so I headed to church. My life group leader gave us these pretty little flowers- Thanks, Amy!

We had lunch after church then I did my grocery shopping and came home and napped. YAY for naps!  Tyler had to work an extra long shift because the Fort Smith marathon was going on…so he didn’t get home until around 6.  He didn’t forget it was Valentine’s Day! 🙂

Excuse the sideways picture, but he brought home a funny card, chocolates, and these Luma Pots- light up flower pots.

We watched Million Dollar Arm last night- it was SO good.  Especially for a sports movie. I’m not usually a fan of sports movies, but this was great!

I was up early with Tyler’s 3 a.m. alarm…so here’s to a Monday (hopefully) not feeling so long.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Recap: Valentine Weekend

Oh my goodness- did I have a weekend filled with LOVE!  I spent lots of time with friends, got some beautiful flowers from my sweet Tyler, and spent some time with my “girl soulmate” bestie. 🙂

Friday night, we celebrated Galentine’s Day.  Lauren said it was the day to celebrate your girls.  So we hit the town and had dinner, a candy exchange, and LOTS of laughs.

Saturday, I was finally able to open my card from Taylor.  And of course, she personalized it with Zac Hanson pics. ha! Loved it!

When Tyler got home from working all night, he came with these beauties.  I loved them.  He isn’t a big fan of giving flowers, but he knows I love them. 🙂 Love that man of mine.  He worked all night, but still stopped to get flowers for me.IMG_8754.JPG

While Tyler napped, I went to Zumba…then came home and got ready because Alden and Mike were on their way!  My best friend (whom I refer to as my girl soulmate…truth) Alden lives on the other side of the state.  We hadn’t seen each other since their wedding last March.  So they came to spent the weekend with us.

We started with a trip to Sonic to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL day.

After Sonic, we went up to the park to explore.  It’s one of the highest points in town, so lots of beautiful views.  Tyler was showing them something. 🙂

I love these newlyweds. 🙂

Saturday night, we went to Movie Lounge for dinner and a movie. Truth time: we loved the movie and the company (of course) but Movie Lounge is just missing the mark.  They were out of half of the appetizers (I mean…it’s V Day.  You know people are going to splurge), our food came out cold, and the service was SLOW.  They needed more servers for sure.  We totally enjoyed our night together, but were sort of disappointed in the service.

Sunday, we all went to church together, but the incoming winter weather (and Alden was getting sick) meant they needed to leave Sunday afternoon.  But before they did…we had to watch The Last Five Years together.  We downloaded it on iTunes and hooked up the computer to the TV.  Alden was the one to introduce me to this musical, we i wanted to watch it with her.

I was sad to see them leave, but glad to have spent time together.

So that was my weekend full of love.  Happy heart for sure.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Recap: The Weekend that Felt Like Three

I can’t explain.  I wish I could replicate it every weekend.  This weekend felt so long, it really felt like I almost had a whole week of weekend.
Not sure why.  We did a whole lot, and a whole lot of nothing.  It’s bizarre.  Let me explain. (It’s a long post…but read for Valentine date night and my first hunting trip!!)
Friday after work, I came home, spruced myself up and we headed out for our Valentine date.  On the way out, we stopped to see Gram (who was home alone since my parents were out of town) and take her a Valentine. In typical Gram fashion, she kept talking and we were almost late to our date! ha!
We went downtown to Cross My Art for their special Valentine Date Night.  It was SO great. We had a private little table up front, and after eating some AMAZING BBQ, we each painted a canvas.  We were pretty quiet because we were concentrating! ha! But it was so fun.
Our finished products!  Mine says “Then sings my soul….How Great Thou Art” with a zebra cross….and Ty’s says “Excuse the mess, we live here.”  I just LOVE them.
We came home, watched the Olympics, and did something I hardly ever do…stayed up until almost midnight!
Saturday, we slept in and I made us breakfast (waffles, bacon, eggs…yum!).  Then, we watched the Olympics while I did some freelance work.  Somehow I managed several hours of freelancing and got TONS accomplished.
Tyler ran to town to do some errands while I worked.
When he came back, we tried out a new little cafe in town.  THE BEST PATTY MELT I HAVE EVER EATEN. OMG. And we washed his truck. 🙂
My original evening plans were to go get a pedicure, wash my car, and go to Wal-Mart while Tyler hunted (sat in the woods) but since the weather was nice, he wanted me to come with him.  It was sunny, clear and 60 degrees…so I said why not!  He hunts on a piece of land just down from our house.  The old lady that lives there lets him hunt there.  The blind is tucked back into some trees with an opening toward the clearing where the deer come eat acorns.
He told me to wear layers, so I had on like 4 layers of pants and 5 shirts. 🙂
We heard LOTS of animals rustling around.  A giant possum sounded like a person walking around our blind.  I may have panicked thinking it was a serial killer coming to wipe us out in the woods.  Then a skunk was circling us for a while.  We never saw him…but we heard and smelled him.  I was SO scared that something would spook him and I’d have to Google “how to get rid of skunk spray”.  Thankfully, he scampered off.  I did doze off a few times in the blind (gorgeous weather, sitting in a dark tent being quiet and still=sleepy)….but Tyler woke me up at dusk to really watch for deer.  We didn’t see any. Boo.  We did hear one in the woods when we were walking back to our truck…but it was far too late to even attempt shooting it.
We came home, made dinner, made a pot of chili for Sunday’s chili supper at church, and watched MORE Olympics.  Watch all the Olympics.
Sunday, I worked in the nursery with some fun 2 year olds and we had a great service at church.
After church, we picked up some pizzas and headed into Oklahoma to Ty’s grandpas.  We ate lunch, visited, and did some shooting.  Tyler got me a gun for our anniversary (romantic, I know) and I really enjoyed shooting it.  This was our spread in the back of a pickup truck.
We even got my dad and Grandpa shooting!
Sunday evening, we had a chili supper at church.  People either brought desserts or chili….and it was all fishes and loaves up in there.  There were only like 5 pots of chili (and TABLE AFTER TABLE of desserts!) but somehow there was enough for everyone.
Then we hit up Walmart, came home and watched a movie…and crashed.
A successful weekend, indeed.
How was your weekend? Have you ever been hunting?
