Zumba Core Training

Now on to the regularly scheduled programming. 🙂

Zumba has a new option for instructors who are members of the Zumba Instructor Network – Zumba Core training!

Zumba Core is no doubt inspired by the video game….but it is an educational module designed to teach instructors how to incorporate core-focused moves into their classes.
What does Zumba Core training entail?  Well, you buy the training in the “Continuing Education” area of the Zumba site.  You get a training manual and a DVD/CDset. You have to study the materials and take an online exam to pass the course.
What does this mean for students? This means that if your instructor gets training in Zumba Core, you will have access to the newest fitness routines and techniques available from Zumba Fitness! These routines are focused on the core of the body, resulting in more toning (and who doesn’t want that?).
I haven’t gotten my DVD in the mail yet, but I can hardly wait to watch it and learn how to make Zumba even more Core focused!
I also just purchased the Zumba Core video game!  I can’t wait to have some time to play it!  I LOVE the original Zumba Wii game, so I’m sure this one will rock too!  You can get your own Zumba Core video game by clicking below!

Zumba already works the core area with all the latin moves (and hip moves!) but this is another way that Zumba is equipping instructors to offer the most cutting edge, effective workout out there!

Reasons Why I Love Zumba!

I know sometimes my Zumba obsession seems like a bit much.  But here are a few reasons why I love Zumba!
  • It is FUN! Seriously.  I can Zumba for hours and not even realize it…because of all the fun I’m having.
  • It is a GREAT workout.  I know I’ve posted lots of that info here before, but its true.  Zumba keeps me in shape.  (Hey! Round is a shape! 🙂 haha)
  • I have made awesome friends through Zumba.  Zumba just brings a community atmosphere. Some of my best friends I met through Zumba. 
  • I feel cultured.  I mean that I feel like I am knowledgable about the whole world through Zumba.  Lots of learning about the music and culture of different countries.  I mean, what other way is a country girl going to learn the hottest latin and bellydance songs?
  • It gives me a creative outlet.  I feel like I get to just “let it flow” in Zumba.  From swinging my hips to “freestyling” Zumba lets my creative juices flow!
  • It challenges me.  I didn’t know some of the things I was capable of…until Zumba challeneged me.  Dance with weights for 45 minutes? Ok! Do some really high intensity songs? Ok. Shake my booty in unimaginable ways? Ok!
So those are just a few of the reasons why I love Zumba!  Do you love Zumba?  Why?

Great Zumba Songs

There are some songs that are just classics in the Zumba realm.  It seems like every instructor I know has a routine to some of these great Zumba songs! Let’s take a look at some of these songs!

Zumba He Zumba Ha is a favorite!  Not only does it have our beloved “Zumba” in the name…but its a great beat! This girl is a little overzealous with her dancing…but its a good routine! ha!

Another song that is a GREAT Zumba song is Shawty Got Moves. Everyone has their own routine to it (including me!) but I like this one too!

Prrrrum is not only fun to say…but its a also a great Zumba song. It is a good mix of slow and fast…and you can do lots with the music. I like her dance to it.

And I don’t do this song, but it seems like everyone else does….Waka Waka. This is a pretty common routine to this song. I’ve seen it lots of places.

Tips for your First Zumba Class

So after all my talk about Zumba…are you ready for your first Zumba class?

Here are my tips for your first Zumba class…from what to wear to what to do. Here goes!

What to wear. I’ve talked over and over about it (and you can read the detailed post about what to wear to Zumba here)…but wear comfy clothes and good shoes. Your shoes should have minimal tread (see best shoes for Zumba).

What to bring. Bring a water bottle. You will likely need it! If your gym doesn’t provide towels, you might want to bring your own so you can wipe off your sweat.

Where to stand. I’ll be honest. You will feel like standing in the back. However, the closer you can stand to the front (to see the instructor) the better off you will be. If you are in the back and can hardly see, you will feel lost.

The people on the front row have a better view… but not as good as your view of my behind! 🙂

What to do. Try and introduce yourself to your Zumba instructor before class. If they know you are new they can try and help you during class. The next thing to do is talk to those around you. Make friends! Lastly, let go. No one is watching you. I promise. They are trying to keep up just like you are, so they could care less what you are doing. So let loose!
