Dr. Pepper Chocolate Cake

Back when I was in grad school, I taught the Intro the Public Speaking class as a TA. A student of mine gave her demonstration speech on “the best chocolate cake ever” and and she mentioned that a variation of it includes just switching DP for the water. Well, Tyler loves DP, so I had to try it.Well, I made one Monday night…but when flipping it out of the pan, half of it fell on the floor…then when Tyler got a piece, he dropped it on the floor! ha! So he only got like 1.5 pieces of this cake…and he really liked it…so I made another one tonight. He will take it to his shop to share it with his mom and mechanic (and to keep it away from me!). The recipe is so easy, I wanted to share it.Dr. Pepper Chocolate Cake
-1 box white cake mix
-1 small box chocolate pudding mix (I use sugar free….no need for extra sugar)
-1 bag chocolate chips
-the additives to the cake mix it calls for (oil, eggs, etc.)….except substitute Dr. Pepper for all the water.
-1 jar hot fudge topping (optional)

Mix cake mix, pudding, and the additives until smooth. Add chocolate chips and mix. Pour into a bundt pan (you could probably use a regular pan, but I’ve only ever used bundt for this one) and bake as directed by the box. I add an extra minute or two because you want it thoroughly baked to flip it out of the bundt pan.

Let it cool then flip it out of the bundt pan.

You can top with powdered sugar or warm the hot fudge and top generously. Enjoy!

  2. I love Dr. Pepper, but gave up sodas in August. This looks like the perfect way to fill my craving! Definitely going to give this a try.

  3. Sounds yummy! I’m surprised the recipe calls for a white cake mix. I would have thought chocolate! I may have to give this one a whirl.
