Give and Take

Give and Take

Last week we had a little marital issue arise.  It wasn’t super serious, but it was overwhelming in the moment, and it was something that caused a disruption in our normal interactions.

When we finally sat down to talk about it, we both had to give and take.  But I was reminded that marriage isn’t about a 50/50 split.  It is trying to out-serve one another.  It is not give and take.  It is give and give.

Last night, Tyler did something that would seem so small to most of you, but it was huge for him.  We have two motorcycles right now, and we are going on a group ride with our church on Saturday.  Riding isn’t my favorite thing.  I’m a little uncomfortable on a bike, but I do it with him because he loves it.  Well, last night he took me on a “test drive” on both the bikes to see which ones I was most comfortable on.

I chose the least cool of the two (its a big Honda Goldwing), not nearly as cool as the cruiser.  He said he would make sure it was in tip-top shape for our ride…even though I KNOW he would rather drive the “cooler” of the two bikes.  But he is making that sacrifice for me.  We are both giving.  I am giving him my Saturday to go on a ride (something that is a bit out of my comfort zone), and he is giving me the ride I like best.

I’m thankful to have a giving marriage, and a giving spouse.  We aren’t perfect (which was VERY clear last week), but I’m thankful that we show each other God’s grace and mercy…and that we love each other no matter what.

I have been so challenged lately in reading Unglued to work on my reactions and processing my emotions, and I think it will really benefit our marriage.  It surely can’t hurt!

I wanted to share with you a Christian marriage blog that I LOVE called “To Love Honor and Vacuum.”  If you have never read it, check it out! I love her perspective on having a Christ-centered marriage.

Have a great day, y’all! Love and blessings!
