Goals for 2019

In year’s past, I’ve posted a “Year In Review” and a look back at goals and a look ahead.  Man, I don’t know why, but the thought of wading through a year’s worth of photos and recapping seems daunting.  And to be honest, I’m not sure I accomplished many exact goals last year because I was sort of floating without much purpose.

I did a great job of maintaining my weight in 2018.  I’m only up a couple of pounds from last December. But there’s so much more to goals than weight loss.

I’ve also been struck with a sense of making sure my goals are attainable.  No more “be a better friend” because that’s not measurable.  I want to set goals and then set out steps to achieve them.  So here are some things on my list for 2019:

  • Save money.  I have a goal in mind and I’ve actually changed my automatic withdrawals from my paycheck, so as long as I don’t dip into that, I can save without much effort.
  • Read through the Bible again. I’ve done it before, and I know the discipline it takes (and how wading through some Old Testament is HARD).  But I bought the Chronological one-year Bible (I prefer a chronological reading) and I’ve started it.  When I have time, I plan on doubling up days to prevent me from “getting behind.”
  • Have monthly dates with Tyler. Doesn’t always have to be a big thing.  But purposeful, intentional time alone every month.
  • Get to my “goal weight” (which TBH is flexible, but right now entails losing about 20 more pounds).  To do that, I have some process goals:
    • Hit my 300th and 400th workouts at 9Round.  I’m currently around 250, so that’s doing 150 workouts this year.
    • Do a 3-month stretch on keto. I’ve restarted, but I’m not counting January (as we leave the beginning of February for a cruise).
    • Run another 5k completely.

These will take dedication and focus. However, I also want to live in a place of personal grace. It’s a delicate balance to both pursue things and forgive yourself when you fall short- but I hope to walk in that space.

What are you working towards in 2019?
