How Do You Do Zumba? Zumba 101

Here on my blog, I cover commonly asked questions that I hear about Zumba Fitness.  I am a licensed Zumba instructor, so people are always asking me Zumba related questions.  This week, I’m answering the question, “How do you do Zumba?”
Zumba is a fitness platform, like yoga or step.  It is a program that is copyrighted.  Zumba produces music, DVDs, and also teaches people how to be licensed Zumba instructors.
I’ve said it before, so forgive me if you read every week.  But, Zumba is a latin and international-inspired dance fitness program.  In Zumba, you will follow an instructor (either live or on the DVD or video game) and dance along.  You will do lots of different types of dances and the moves will work a variety of muscles.  Zumba is a very effective workout.
So there are four ways that you can do Zumba.
First, you can attend a live class. You can go to zumba.comand search for your zip code and try a live class.  Classes are taught by individuals, so each class is different.  Try a few different classes to get the flavors of varying instructors. Here is more on how to find a Zumba class.
Me, teaching a Zumba class outside!
Second, you can buy a Zumba DVD.  I’m sure you have seen the infomercials, so you can order them there.  You can also order them from, and I have seen them occasionally at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. You can do Zumba right in your own living room!
Third, you can buy a Zumba video game. Zumba has video games for the Wii and Xbox 360. They have several different games.  You can buy them anywhere you would buy video games.  Again, this allows you to do Zumba in front of your TV at home.
Lastly, you can do Zumba on Youtube. I have put together a playlist of various Zumba videos so you can Zumba anytime, anywhere.
However you do it, Zumba is a great workout. You will really work up the sweat and feel the burn!  So that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do Zumba!
