Laughing Gas

I had some dental work on Monday.  In order for me to do anything other than a cleaning at the dentist, I require laughing gas.  I had a TERRIBLE experience a few years ago where they tried to do a filling without numbing me….and that made me a VERY nervous dental patient.  So the laughing gas takes the edge off.

Monday’s must have been exceptionally strong, however, because I reacted in ways I haven’t before.

I was super funny.  At least in my head.

He started off saying “Oh, I see you are already partying” (meaning, you are on the gas already). I responded with a shimmy and a “woo!”. #embarassing

He started my fillings.  I had three on one side and one on the other.  He began with the numbing cream and numbing shots. He took his time with the shots because they sting.  I was grateful.  He finished the second shot, and I proclaimed “That’s the best I’ve ever had, doc!”  (I think. It’s all a little fuzzy).

As he started the fillings, there were moments that I’m not sure were in my head or real.  For starters, I think LFO’s Summer Girls was playing on the radio.  But that could have been in my head.

I DO know that “Celebrate Good Times” was on the radio…and I waved my hand to talk.  He took the stuff out of my mouth and looked concerned. I said “This is no time for celebration.”  And then I opened wide for him to resume his work.  WHAT?!

A little later, a Mariah Carey song was playing (I think it was “Can’t Let Go”) and the dentist said “Is this Mariah Carey?”  I muttered an “uh huh” with my mouth open.  He then proceeded to tell me that she was in the movie “The Butler” but she wasn’t looking good in the movie.  He wasn’t sure if she was made to look that way or if she looked bad now.  I (again) waved my hand to talk.  He removed all his instruments and I said “She is like Oprah on that weight loss rollercoaster.  Girl needs a Jenny Craig coach.”  And then I opened my mouth for him to finish.  #seriously?

It was all over in about 2 hours.  I am still a little jaw-sore…but I hope they realize it was the nitrous talking…not me. 🙂

  1. This is effing hilarious!! Maybe I shouldn’t be so scared of the dentist! 🙂

  2. Yeah for the nitrous! Next time we are sending in someone to video!! I would have died at the shimmy!!

  3. I have never had laughing gas before, but I think I am going to require it for some work I need to have next month. Now I am a little nervous about what I will say!!! It might make for a good blog post like you though!

  4. Sooooo… I’m headed to the dentist today. And I’m thinking it’s been FAR too long since I’ve had me a good dose of laughing gas. I may ask for it, whether I need it or not.

And… is it odd that I can actually hear/picture you saying and doing all those things WITHOUT laughing gas?!? Isn’t this how you are just in normal, every day conversations? LOL (Cause you’re crazy Brittney, that’s why!) *wink*

  5. This is HILARIOUS! Unfortunately my dentists office doesn’t do laughing gas 🙁 I think I need to find a new one so I can get some material for a blog post! LOL

  6. Yes….. this is hilarious. I just pictured your cute little face making those sweet comments and opening up for him to keep working. LOL! You’re too cute my friend!
