Exciting Week Update

Ok, so I feel like I can talk about it now.

Here is what made last week so exciting…

I get emails from careerbuilder.com for the Fort Smith area. We will be living there next year and I’m curious as to what jobs come up. Well, one job popped up last Monday for a “Digital Marketing Manager” at a major car dealership in Fort Smith. If you know me, you know I LOVE anything online, and that in college, I took classes that talked about online marketing and we actually learned about this stuff. The emphasis of my entire Master’s program has been stuff online (researching gendered blogging, marriage portrayals on the Internet, blogging as a mass medium, mommy blogs, I could go on…). Needless to say, this job was PERFECT. I spent a few hours lamenting about how “it is so dumb that I’m still in grad school…I wish I was done so I could apply for this job…blah blah blah” Then I prayed for God to change my attitude. Instead of an attitude change, I felt like God was saying, “Why not now? Go for it.”

So I sent in my resume with a cover letter explaining that I was a full-time grad student, but I would be willing to do this job part time until I graduated in May. I didn’t expect to hear anything back.

But I heard back within a day and had my first interview last week. My interview was 2 hours long, and I met with the General Manager and the Owner. We had a great chat. Then I got an email back to come meet with another manager today and that meeting went well.

I won’t say I’ve got it in the bag, but I think we all had the same ideas and goals in mind, and I think they are willing to work around my schedule.

I know this would result in a very busy next few months. I would be in Fort Smith whenever I wasn’t in Fayetteville. But this would result in me graduating with a great job that pays well, and that I’m actually qualified for and would love to do. It would be a blessing.

God is faithful, and I know that He gave me the courage and confidence to apply for this job, and He will give me the time and the sanity to make it all work, if this works out.

Great Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend.

Yesterday, we slept in and then we drove around downtown to check out the remnants of Bikes Blues and BBQ. Most of it was closing down, so we didn’t stop and walk around. Then we went to Walmart and did our grocery shopping. I love to shop with Tyler, he makes a Walmart run so much more fun!

Later in the afternoon, we went to see The Social Network.
It was a fascinating movie. While I heard the story isn’t 100% on point with what really happened, it was a great storyline and an interesting look at Facebook. While some people are annoyed with Facebook, I am fascinated by it and am studying computer-mediated interpersonal communication, so to understand the driving forces and the creation process of Facebook was really neat. I liked the movie. Two thumbs up. There were also some great previews for movies coming up. Looks like a winter filled with great movies (which is good because winter is our movie going season, as it is too cold to do much outside!).

We also put out our Halloween decorations. My plates in my plate holder…
My sign in the kitchen
My little pumpkin outside (it has a haunted house instead of a face)

And on another note, we can’t seem to get rid of this little neighborhood cat.

I think some people moved away and left her (him maybe? Not sure…haven’t gotten close enough to examine). I feel so bad for this cat. It just meows all the time and I am sure she is hungry…but I can’t feed her because I don’t want her to depend on me. But its killing me to not put out a can of tuna or a plate of milk for this pretty kitty.

Do you feed strays in your neighborhood? Or do you shoo them away? Did you have a good weekend?

OU beat Texas last night! Woohoo! We watched part of the game at Tyler’s shop and the end of the game at Cheddar’s last night. We went for dinner and were going to wait for a table until we realized there was a big TV behind the bar…and two perfectly empty bar stools right infront of the TV. So we just ate at the bar!
Then last night, we came home and wanted to be active. I wanted to run, but Tyler hates running, so he was going to bike the route with me. So we geared up to run. It was a bit chilly, so I put on leggings, long sleeves and ear warmers. Good call….because it was around 40 degrees last night! Well, we went outside, and Tyler’s bike had a flat. I was bummed because I thought this meant we were about to head back inside. But, no. My wonderful husband starts running down the street. He was going to run with me (even though he hates it!). Well, we did my 8 minute running section, and did the 5 minute walk inbetween, but by the time we turned to head back home to run 8 more minutes, we were facing the wind and breathing in wind, and it was quite cold on my lips, mouth, and lungs…so we only ran 4 minutes at the end. But it was so fun to run together. And I was surprised/mad at how easily Tyler picked up the running that I’ve been working up to for months. ha!
We slept with the window open last night. We were still a little warm from our workout and didn’t want to turn the air on high. Well, I woke up freezing! Why? Oh it got down to like 35 last night! It is currently 49 degrees and will be 37 tonight! Here is today’s forecast…
Guess it is officially “light jacket” weather now!

Boomer Sooner (For Today)

So my beloved Razorbacks have a week off from football this weekend. For my town, that means that instead of football fanatics, it is filled with motocycle riders. This weekend is Bikes, Blues, and BBQ and there are thousands of bikers in town. They are EVERYWHERE. It just makes it difficult to get around town. Here is a picture of our bike-filled main street downtown I found online…

But even though my Hogs aren’t playing today, I do have a team to cheer for: the Oklahoma Sooners.

Ty is a lifelong Sooner fan, and since today is the big game (Texas vs. OU), I have donned my one OU shirt and my cute little OU earrings and am ready to cheer on the Sooners. (See my cute little earrings!)

I hope (for the sake of my husband’s happiness) they win. Boomer Sooner! Until next week when I can call the Hogs again….
