The Most Joyful Time!

The Most Joyful Time!

I just love this time of year.  I feel like a broken record going on and on about how wonderful it is- but it is!

Don’t get me wrong, there are sad things this time of year.  We lost my Grandfather years ago on December 23.  This year, we lost Gram. It will be our first holiday without her. I know many people have hurting hearts this time of year.

But I’m choosing to be joyful. I am seeing the joy bombs going off all over the place (I’m currently reading Fight Back with Joy- and the joy bomb is central to it!). God is constantly giving good gifts all around me- so I’m making my attitude one of happy acceptance of those gifts.

One gift is the pretty Christmas lights on my way to work in the mornings.  Sure, I could grumble about it being cold, early, and having to work on this holiday week – or I could thank the Lord that our little town puts up lights…and that they are still glowing at 6:30 a.m.

I’m also filled with joy by friends. Last night we went to a Christmas party at the home of our director from the Wizard of Oz this summer.  His home was full of Christmas trees (I think 7 of them!), yummy food, hot cider, and friends from the musical.

And then George took to the piano and friends sang while he played. And then the best part was when he passed out sheet music and we all sang “Carol of the Bells” right there on the spot. (Truth be told, this is the second run through…George wanted the tempo faster after our first! Always a director!)

So I’m filled with joy at the beautiful friendship and beautiful music we shared.

What are you joyful for today?

  1. This is my favorite time of year, too. It’s been a little weird not being at home in Arkansas for it, but I have managed to maintain my joyous feeling for most of it!

I think our challenge is to make this spirit last all year, for sure.

    • Arkansas is a bit sad you’re not here! 🙁 I’m glad you’re still joyous, though! Being away from home can be tough. I agree, the challenge is to continue this joy. That’s my plan!
