Thoughts on Mockingjay Part 1

I do have commentary on the Ferguson, MO activity, especially since tonight is Tyler’s first shift as a police officer.  However, I’m still formulating those and I’ll figure out whether to share those later.  For now, let’s talk Hunger Games.  Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it or read the books yet.

I saw Mockingjay Part 1 last night.  It was wonderful.  Amazing.  Spectacular.  Heart wrenching.

Some thoughts:

The destruction caused by the Capital was nastier than I imagined when reading.  The bodies in District 12, the bombing of the hospital….so so so sad.

It was a short on-screen visit, but I LOVED Patina Miller as Commander Paylor in District 8.  She was wonderful in Pippin, and was awesome on screen.

I am Team Gale.  All the way.

Katniss’ cat got fat.

Watching Peeta fall was super sad.

Where they veered from the book it was for GREAT reasons.  As a rabid fan of the books, I was super pleased with the movie.

  1. I can’t wait to see it. I loved the books and have been wondering how they were going to get that last book into a movie. It was such a different book.

In other thoughts, as I was watching the news last night the one thought that kept crossing my mind was how I felt so sorry for the wives of those police officers. Our law enforcement risks their lives every time they go on duty, and the scene last night was so intense.

    • Karen, thanks for your comment. I LOVED the books, too! His whole police career so far has been around this Ferguson stuff (he was hired and started the police academy right around the initial incident) and now his first week was during the protests. It’s stressful. I have had moments of worry…but I’m learning to trust God more and more to keep him safe.
