Weekend Recap: Memorial Day Weekend

Weekend Recap: Memorial Day Weekend

I am SO thankful for the sacrifices of those who have given their lives serving our country.  I can hardly believe all we give them is a day in memorial.  I’m thankful for a three day weekend to relax, and I wish the weather had been better to attend some of the memorial events in the area.

I had a pretty low key weekend.  Crazy storms threw a kink in our plans.

Saturday I went on a ride along with Tyler.  It was a fairly mellow day.  We backed a few calls and took a few ourselves.  I got smart and brought my iPad to read while he was out of the car on calls. I’m reading The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty and it’s great.

When we got home, we had dinner at mom’s and chilled out.

Sunday was church, lunch at mom’s (it was too rainy to try and go anywhere else) and then a nap in the rain).  I did a little cleaning and crafting.

Monday we had plans to go to Hot Springs and see family, but was flooded in between here and there, and down to one lane….so we had to cancel our trip.  So I stayed home and walked the dogs….which they LOVED.

The weather man said if you wanted to do anything you should do it before 4 pm because storms were rolling in, so I fired up the grill and cooked some hot dogs and hamburgers.  And I’m glad I did.  Not long after Tyler got home, it stormed big time.  Tornado warning, thunder, and lightning hit our transformer and blew out our power.

So at 7 pm Tyler went to sleep (he hasn’t been feeling well) and I watched Peter Pan on the iPad.

Not long after, a crew of guys from the power company (including a friend of ours!) showed up to fix our transformer.  It took a while, but they got our power restored just in time for bed).

So that was our low key weekend.  No parties.  No lake.  Nothing crazy.  But lots of naps, good food, and relaxing. 🙂

How was your weekend?

  1. Sounds like a pretty perfect weekend!! I LOVED The Husband’s Secret- that started me on binge-reading all of Liane Moriarty’s books. They are all awesome!!!

  2. Not that we celebrate Memorial Day here…but it was a relaxing long weekend too. I went to the beach last week (only 2 nights) for my birthday. When I got back I was planning on working but I woke up with extreme pain in my elbow…so the weekend ended up being the doctor and rest. Found out I have a pinched nerve from sleeping with my arm curled up underneath me. Finally the pain is subsiding but I can’t lift weights for a month

    • I had some elbow problems from sleeping that way! I had to wear a brace…let me know if you need one- I can send you mine. I don’t need it any more. Ahhh the beach. #jealous. I’m hoping to start planning some vacations soon! Hoping for Vegas with Tyler (once he earns Vacation time in August!), maybe a quick Disney trip with Alden, and a Hanson concert in the fall. I’m itching for some travel. You know me, can’t stay still too long!
