Zumba Convention Day 1

Zumba Convention Day 1

We traveled to Orlando after work on Wednesday.  Lauren and I left from Fort Smith, flew to Atlanta (had a great dinner/drinks at TGIFriday’s…it WAS vacation after all!), and then flew to Orlando.  We landed at like 11 pm, making for a late night.
We were up bright and early Thursday to register!
I’m SO thankful for this girl’s friendship and that we could share our first convention together!
All around there were banners and signs, perfect for photo ops. 🙂
I LOVE this one. It says:
“I am a Zumba instructor. I’m not your typical fitness instructor.  I encourage letting loose and smiling and being yourself. I’m not perfect. I don’t want to be. I believe in being real. I believe in what matters. I live my life with purpose- that’s why I teach. I love dancing, moving, and losing myself in the music. Those are the moments I luve for. They’re real. And I want to share those moments with everyone in the room. I don’t care if you’re young, old, overweight, underweight, use weights, in a wheelchair, need a chair, or have hair issues, you are part of my class. I won’t stop until I teach you how to move to the music and feel free. I will lead you there. I believe in my dreams and I know I can achieve them. I’m proud to be a part of a community that’s a lot like me. People who care, people who make a difference in this world. People who understand the power of moving together as one. I know I’m part of something  bigger than myself, and I know it’s changing lives. I’m not your typical fitness instructor. I’m a licensed Zumba instructor. I am ZIN.”
When we came through registration, we had to get a picture by the GIANT banner.
And this one was over the escalators leading down to where the concert would be.
Over the walkways, they had inspirational quotes…
And during the opening ceremony, I LOVED this Zumba Fitness mission statement.
Zumba did AMAZING things during the opening ceremony.  The theme was all about dreams…and they granted people’s dreams on the spot.  They gave away $10,000 scholarship to an instructor who was a mom wanting to go back to school.  They gave a year’s worth of rent to an instructor who lost her home in a fire.  They donated like $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity for instructors in India who are helping their community.  They did BIG things.
And then Sherri Shepherd came out and made us all laugh until we cried.
We also heard from our creator, Beto Perez.
Then I headed off to my first session, Latin Pop.  I made it into a convention photo, I’m on the right in a purple tank. 🙂
That evening, they put on a HUGE show- a fitness concert….where people performed and we did Zumba with them.  Mara, Claudette, Victoria Justice, J Perry, Dario Wonder, and Sean Paul to name a few.  It was AWESOME!
This was like 1/4 of the crowd.  The stage was in the center of the room.  You can see me, Lauren, Mary and Sheila in this too.  It’s like Where’s Waldo. 🙂
That night, we were BEAT so we went to bed after the concert.  Day 2 tomorrow!
